Grapes of Wrath

In these few chapters I found chapter 13 to be the most influential. Within the chapter the family suffers the loss of two characters both Grampa and the Joads dog is killed. This situation in my opinion foreshadows what is yet to come in the story. As the Joads continue on their trip to California we hear rumors of pamphlets being sent out by the thousands even though only a limited number of jobs are actually available. These rumors worry the Joads and could lead them into a dangerous situation. I believe the theme throughout this chapter is how important relationships and friendships are within difficult situations One specific line that I found while active reading was in ch.14 "The last clear definite function of man—muscles aching to work, minds aching to create beyond the single need—this is man" I found this line both powerful and meaningful.

  1. I also chapter 13 for the same reasons. The quote you had at the end seemed like a great one as well.
