Exploration 11

One of my favorite passages from the Nobel Speech essays would be from Nelson Mandela, when he stated, "The the children must, at last, play in an open veld, no longer tortured by pangs of hunger or ravaged by disease or threatened with the scourge of ignorance, molestation and abuse, and no longer required to engage in the deeds whose gravity exceeds the demands on their tender years". I think this is very important because it such an obvious statement, but still very powerful. It pretty much sums up everything he is fighting for.
An important issue I found while doing research on South Africa was that it still has one of the highest crime rates in the world, even though it fell roughly 4.7 percent, which was 18,487 out of 47 million people. I think this is important because although South Africa is beginning to settle, it shows that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. I found this issue at this link.

The Dalai Lama is both head of state and spiritual leader in Tibet. The current, or 14th one, is Tenzin Gyatso. The challenge I had while trying to research was that I had at first thought that Dalai Lama was a man, rather than a title. I quickly found out what that title meant when I began to search the name.

Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama. Retrieved from:

  1. I agree with your first paragraph. I think you did a nice job on that one, but i feel that you could have done a little more research on Dalai Lama.

  2. I have to agree with you on the passage from Mandela's speech. I really did show what he is fighting for. I think it also showed how bad Africa really is with the crime rates and poor living conditions that these people must live through on a daily basis.

  3. I agree with your favorite passage it truly describes what Mandela's goal was and described what the current conditions were quite accurately.

  4. Nelson Mandela had a lot of good quotes throughout his speech and this is one of the best ones.
