In today's Nobel prize winning essays, one passage that stood out most to me was Nelson Mandela's call to end oppression and racism in his country of South Africa by quoting MLK Jr. to end racism and war. It shows that Nelson Mandela was very knowledgeable and smart, and that he also has a real passion for uplifting South Africa. Something nifty about Nelson Mandela is that Morgan Freeman actually portrayed him in a movie called Invictus. This movie really showed the hurdles facing Mandela when he was trying to unify his country for peace and prosperity. www.imDb.com
The current Dalai Lama is a man named Tenzin Gyatso, he is the 14th so far, and he said that he could possibly be the last. the Chinese government issued a law in which all high monks of Tibet would have to have the approval of the government. This includes the Dalai Lama. The reason there is tension, other than the fact that China has taken over Tibet, is that Tenzin has retired, but he stated that the next Dalai Lama (if it will exist) could possibly be femal and possibly live outside of Tibet. The Chinese government rejected this statement and stated that only it has the authority to select the next one. Also, Tenzin fled Tibet and created the "government in exile" of Tibet.

I didn't know that this could possibly be the last Dalai Lama. I agree with the passage you found to because racism has been a big issue in America.
ReplyDeleteI also did not know that this Dalai Lama could be the last one. It amazes me that China has that much of a say in it.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad how corrupt the government can be to deny the monks power. They have been ongoing for centuries and up until recently, there hasn't been much conflict.
ReplyDeleteCool information on the the new Dalai Lama. I wonder what else is going to happen around that region with China in the picture.
ReplyDeleteI liked how your caption included his real name. It goes overlooked too often.
