John Bingham Ch 12
Chapter 12 was important because it showed the struggle people had to go through to make it to California. When a car breaks down and needs a new tire, the tires are for sale but the prices are extremely expensive and most people can not afford it on their own. When the family is trying to buy a tire they say, "We got to get a tire, but, Jesus, they want a lot for a ol' tire. They look a fella over. They know he got to go on. They know he can't wait. And the price goes up." The salesman said, "Take it or leave it. I ain't a businessman for my own health" which shows the stores and businesses are taking advantage of the people moving west. I felt bad for the people trying to move west, because when they get to California, they will have no money because they are ripped off by car dealers and other people who sell parts for cars.

I felt the businessmen were taking advantage of people in struggles to wring out the most profit
ReplyDeleteI think this Chapter was a very good example of both sides of Business. Poverty and Business run hand and hand.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I feel that the business men scam people out of money, and then by the time they get to California (if they even do) they have no money left.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that the poor can easily get scammed out of the small amount of stuff they have.
